Flu 14 deaths this season in NC, but fever getting flu shots
Last week, the number of flu-related deaths in North Carolina rose by five, bringing the season’s total to 14, with ten of those individuals being 65 or older. This increase in flu-related fatalities coincides with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s announcement that flu vaccine uptake is at its lowest point in the last five years. CVS Regional Director Gaurang Trivedi mentioned that CVS has administered over 500,000 flu and COVID-19 vaccines to patients in the greater Raleigh area this year. While demand for flu and COVID vaccines has slightly decreased, there has been a consistent demand for RSV and pneumonia vaccines. Notably, the highest demand for COVID-19 vaccines is from individuals aged 65 and older.
